Rubric Checklist

  • Utilize a rubric that is specific to the assignment
  • Decide whether or not to use a numerical weighing system 
    • Decide on scale (1-3: Unsatisfactory, Satisfactory, Excellent; 1-5: Missing, Below Competent, Competent, Above Competent, Excellent)
    • Weigh categories equally or depending on the importance or value of each competency
    • Formative assignments may be assessed solely on completion 
  • Familiarize assessors (instructors, students) with the rubric and grading scale
  • Plan for inter-rater reliability, if applicable
  • Provide room for evaluator comments (both positive and constructive)
